Introduction
We are looking to recruit a Junior Technologist to work within our Private Label Department. The role will be based in Cape Town at the Head Office and will report to the Technical Manager.
Job description

Job Purpose:
To drive, protect and enhance the Clicks brand by taking responsibility for ensuring all electrical products developed and sourced as part of the NPD development plan and subsequently sold in our stores are compliant and at a minimum meet the local and international quality, health and safety requirements whilst constantly striving to deliver increased profitability and grow market share.

Job Objectives:
Manage Quality, Safety & Legislation
  • To support the category team within their development plans to ensure quality and safety compliance across all PL development by adhering to legislation and NPD approval processes to protect the brand reputation and financial impact on the business
  • Implement the Clicks Technical Standards of Operation (CTSO) into the supplier base whilst maintaining all quality processes and correct paperwork
  • Maintenance and management of all administrative requirements aligned to quality process and document management.
  • Product specifications and RAG process kept for each product and database maintained.
  • Ensure product specifications conform to the quality standards
  • Review and communicate TQM results to relevant stakeholders (including customer complaints, quality control results etc.)
  • Manage relationship with The Appliance Bank and Clicks compliance process.
  • Regular visits to NGO and Cape Town DC (Centralised store returns) to investigate returns and highlight trends for corrective action.
  • Product assessment and breakdown to implement corrective action on new development and returns.
  • Report and feedback on quality timeously
  • Ensure the assigned China QA office is used for all export requirements.
  • Assess all China QA/QC and audit reports.
  • Maintain the RAG process.
  • Artwork and instruction manual sign off.
  • DC release process to be implemented for all high risk/new launches
  • Prepare on going and timeous sales, quality and corrective action reports (including scorecard, supplier scorecards) for management through drawing, analysing and interpreting accurate data
  • Responsible for customer complaints/queries, red alerts, public product recall and product withdrawals
  • Lead regulatory change – to manage new legislative requirements into the categories, communicate and ensure total compliance of this within product and packaging developments.
  • Manage electrical waste, payments to PRO’s, EPR legislative compliance and PRO audits.

Manage NPD & Costs
  • Assist with bi-annual competitor quality review report
  • Manage relevant technical information to enable final sign off of projects for product and packaging compliance
  • Lead technical product/ingredient/process and packaging innovation
  • Adherence and input to critical project path
  • Export – project framework/plan to retrofit product into international rules and launch timeously
 
Manage Suppliers & Inventory
  • Regular audit scorecard to be obtained from an approved local and international supplier list bi-annually
  • Corrective action plan presented to key stake holders and implemented
  • Build up good working relationships with suppliers to benefit from key learnings
  • Resolve critical raw materials/sourcing issues
  • Understand the impact of low or no in-fills on the categories and resolve issues of quality/capacity
 
General
  • To actively demonstrate the Clicks values in day to day activities

Minimum requirements

Education:
  • National diploma or higher in electrical/electronic engineering 

Job Knowledge and Skills:
  • Experience in repair sector/Fault finding (Technician)
  • Experience in injection moulding would be an advantage
  • Familiar with the framework of safety standards (SABS/IEC standards) that are applicable to all electrical and battery-operated small to medium appliances, health care products and beauty products.
