Introduction
Own and continuously optimise onsite search to improve findability, conversion, and customer experience across web and app. This role is accountable for the day-to-day configuration and performance management of Algolia, ensuring search relevance, merchandising rules, synonyms, redirects, and analytics are used to drive sales and reduce customer friction.

Job Objectives:

Key Outcomes

  • Improve search conversion and revenue contribution 
  • Reduce “no results” and poor relevance experience
  • Increase product discovery and engagement with search-driven navigation
  • Enable fast, controlled search changes for campaigns, ranges, and business priorities

Core responsibilities

  • Search operations and merchandising
  • Manage Algolia rules, synonyms, redirects, facets, filters, ranking strategy (as permitted), and query suggestions
  • Create and maintain campaign rules (e.g., “Black Friday deals”, seasonal landing results, brand priorities) with expiry dates and governance
  • Ensure high-value queries (top searches) consistently return relevant, in-stock products and correct categories
  • Maintain search landing pages and query redirects where needed

Relevance and optimisation

  • Run weekly relevance reviews using Algolia analytics (top queries, zero-results, click-through, conversion, abandonment)
  • Continuously tune relevance levers: synonyms, typo tolerance settings (where applicable), query rules, facet ordering, and result filtering
  • Identify poor-performing queries and implement fixes (content, metadata, synonyms, rules, or range changes)
  • Partner with trading and category teams to align search results to commercial strategy without breaking relevance trust

Data and catalogue readiness

  • Work with Master Data/Product Content teams to ensure product titles, attributes, taxonomy, brands, and rich metadata support search performance
  • Define required searchable attributes and faceting standards (e.g., brand, concern, ingredient, skin type, size, price bands)
  • Monitor indexing health and flag issues (missing attributes, bad taxonomy, duplicates, incorrect availability, broken variants)
  • Testing and continuous improvement
  • Set up and coordinate A/B tests (Algolia AB testing if available) for relevance strategies, ranking approaches, and UX changes
  • Translate customer feedback and analytics into a prioritised optimisation backlog
  • Document changes, learnings, and outcomes for auditability and repeatability                                 

Minimum requirements

Job Related Knowledge & Skills:
  • Strong analytical skills: can diagnose issues from query-to-product and recommend fixes
  • Understanding of retail taxonomy, product attributes, and customer intent
  • Strong stakeholder management and ability to balance relevance trust with commercial priorities
